NDIS in South Australia

NDIS in South Australia|Lifelong Pathways

NDIS in South Australia: There has been much discussion about how the NDIS in South Australia will be progressively rolled out in SA.  I would like to explain the next phase of the roll out for SA.  The NDIS in South Australia will be rolled out based on the age and residential location of each future participant.

The first age group to be transitioned into the scheme will be the 0-14 year olds.  This phase will occur State-wide.  Their planning meetings will commence in February 2014.  The NDIA plan to have all of these children and young adults transitioned onto Individualised Funding Plans by 31 December 2016.

The next age cohort to transition will be teenagers age 15-17.  Again, the roll out will be State-wide.  It is envisaged that all of the young adults in this age group will be on their Individualised Funding Plans by 30 June 2017.

The next age group, which are adults age 18-64, will commence their transition into the scheme on 1 July 2017.  The NDIS will transition these adults based on where they live.  For example, residents in the Barossa, Light and Lower North Region will be amongst the first regions to transfer to their Individualised Funding Plans. Residents in the Murray and Mallee region will begin to transition in October 2017.

Residents in a large geographical area (including Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island) will commence their transition onto Individualised Funding Plans in January 2018.  Residents in the Adelaide Hills, Eastern Adelaide and Western Adelaide regions will commence their transition onto NDIS in South Australia from 1 April 2018.

The NDIS in South Australia plan to have captured all of the participants in the 18-64 age cohort by 30 June 2018.

The transition for NDIS in South Australia has now been clearly outlined due to the recent bi-lateral agreement reached late in 2015.

The document, available on the NDIA website, outlines each South Australian Government Region/Local Government areas with the respective transition start date.
